Highlighter:

A highlighter is a type of writing device used to draw attention to sections of text by marking them with vivid, translucent color. A typical highlighter is a fluorescent yellow, colored with pyranine. Different compounds, such as rhodamines (Rhodamine 6GD, Rhodamine B) are used for other colors.

History:

A highlighter is a felt-tip marker filled with transparent fluorescent ink instead of black or opaque ink. The first highlighter was invented by Dr. Frank Honn in 1962 and produced by Carter's Ink Company, using the trademarked name HI-LITER. Avery Dennison Corporation now owns the brand, having acquired Carter's Ink Company in 1975.

Schwan-Stabilo has been producing felt-tip writing devices since 1971. It is hailed as the European product leader of manufacturing highlighters. In 2003, the company changed its name to Stabilo International. check out more stationery price in BD

Styles:

Many highlighters come in bright, often fluorescent and vibrant colors. Being fluorescent, highlighter ink glows under black light. The most common color for highlighters is yellow, but they are also found in orange, red, pink, purple, blue, and green varieties. Some yellow highlighters may look greenish in color to the naked eye. Yellow is the preferred color to use when making a photocopy as it will not produce a shadow on the copy. Yet, the use of different color highlighters simultaneously can systematically make information even more organized and readable and in high contrast.

Highlighters are available in multiple forms, including some that have a retractable felt tip or an eraser on the end opposite the felt. Other types of highlighters include the trilighter, a triangularly-shaped pen with a different-colored tip at each corner, and ones that are stackable. There are also some forms of highlighters that have a wax-like quality similar to oil pastels.

"Dry highlighters" (occasionally called "dry line highlighters") have an applicator that applies a thin strip of highlighter tape (physically similar to audiotape) instead of a felt tip. Unlike standard highlighters, they are easily erasable. They are different from "dry mark highlighters", which are sometimes advertised as being useful for highlighting books with thin pages.

"Gel highlighters" contain a gel stick rather than a felt tip. The gel does not bleed through paper or become dried out in the pen as other highlighters' inks may.

"Liquid Highlighters" in a range of colors are also available, and because they put more ink on a page when highlighting, make words stand out more than with non-liquid types. Also, the fact that more highlighting ink is put on the page with liquid highlighters means that the highlighting ink is much more resistive to fading with age.

Marker:

A marker pen, fine liner, marking pen, felt-tip marker, felt-tip pen, flow marker, texta (in Australia), sketch pen (in South Asia) or koki (in South Africa), is a pen which has its own ink source and a tip made of porous, pressed fibers such as felt. A permanent marker consists of a container (glass, aluminum or plastic) and a core of absorbent material. This filling serves as a carrier for the ink. The upper part of the marker contains the nib that was made in earlier times of a hard felt material, and a cap to prevent the marker from drying out. Until the early 1990s, the most common solvents that were used for the ink were toluene and xylene. These two substances are both harmful and characterized by a very strong smell. Today, the ink is usually made on the basis of alcohol (e.g. 1-Propanol, 1-butanol, diacetone alcohol, and cresols). Markers may be waterproof, dry-erase, wet-erase (e.g. transparency markers), or permanent.

Permanent marker:

Permanent markers are porous pens that can write on surfaces such as glass, plastic, wood, metal, and stone. The marks made by such pens are, however, not permanent on some plastics like Teflon, polypropylene, etc., and can be erased easily. The ink is generally resistant to rubbing and water and can last for many years.

White Board Marker:

A whiteboard marker, or a dry-erase marker in some locations, use an erasable ink, made to be used on a slick (or matte-finished), non-porous writing surface, for temporary writing with overhead projectors, whiteboards, and the like. They are designed so that the user is able to easily erase the marks using either a damp cloth, tissue, handkerchief, baby wipe, or other easily cleaned or disposable items. Generally, people use fabrics to do so, but others use items like paper, clothing items, some even use their bare hands to wipe it clear.
